QuickReport 3.x Released With Bugs, No Documentation

On 8/5/98, Inprise shipped Delphi 4.0. Included in this release of Delphi was a new version (3.0) of the QuickReport components. These components have apparently not undergone much testing, because a number of developers have reported bugs on the charting-reporting newsgroup at Inprise's web site. The help file for QR 3.0 was not updated from version 2, so there is no information about the new functionality in the new release.

QuickReport's help file states: "This help file mainly covers QuickReport 2. To download an updated help file and documentation please point your web browser to http://www.qusoft.com." Although an updated help file has been promised, none is available at QuSoft's site. The Delphi Planet received an email on 9/14/98 from Ben Riga, a product manager at Inprise, stating that Inprise is aware of the problem and is working on it. Mr. Riga did not indicate when the file will be available.

QuSoft could not be reached for comment. The QuSoft web site does not contain a phone number or email address for contacting them.

Delphi users who require support for QuickReport will have to pay for it. Although they do not offer documentation for the current release, QuSoft's web site states that they will not support those who purchased their product as part of the Delphi package. They will only offer support if you purchase the "Professional" version of QuickReport. Inprise provides phone support, but only if you pay for it.

The Planet has begun to track the bugs included in QuickReport 3.0 on the QuickReport Bugs Page.
