Possible Uninstall Bug Reported In Delphi 4

By Paul Pritchard
October 10, 1998 10:06 AM CT

In a newsgroup posting, Pierre du Parte (author of FinalFiler) has reported what appears to be a bug when uninstalling Delphi 4 after the service release has been installed. When the patched version of Delphi is uninstalled and then reinstalled, it will not accept a valid serial number and authorization key. The only known way around the problem at this time is to reformat the hard drive on which Delphi was installed.

The bug has yet not been confirmed by Inprise or any other developer, but the Delphi Planet recommends caution when uninstalling Delphi 4.

Pierre gave the following specific steps to reproduce the problem:

  • After freshly formatting the hard drive, install D4 Pro from the CD.
  • Uninstall it.
  • Reboot.
  • Reinstall it. The serial number and authorization numbers are accepted.
  • Install the service release patch.
  • Uninstall Delphi.
  • Attempt reinstall Delphi from the original CD. It will not accept the serial number and authorization numbers.
